First, for my grade 4/5 boys who loved the bmx racing at the Olympic games, see the slideshare below of photos that my son Jonathan took at Beijing.

From the student perspective…

  • We all enjoyed the visit by Saiful Falah, an Islamic history teacher from Bogor Indonesia. Most year levels wrote a post, depicting the difference between his school and ours. All students were particularly focused on this task.
  • Grade 6 are working on an animated movie using Kahootz to show their favourite Olympic Sport
  • Grade 6 students also wrote wonderful posts on “What makes a good quality blog?”
  • Grade 4/5 added a photo of their fruit and vegetable foam cut print to their blogs.
  • Grade 2 worked on a voicethread. They first drew their favourite Olympic sport and then spoke about it.
  • some year levels wrote about “how do we know the Olympic games are on?” What do we see, hear and feel?
  • Students blog of the week Congratulations Che in grade 5. I love your artwork, the descriptions you give and the extra posts that you have added without being asked to. Keep it up!!

    Students as my PLN

    • Grade6 showed me www.flagcounter.com So, I have now added that as a widget on my sidebar. They know the flags of so many countries now.
    • I love seeing how they go to their maps and flags and then check out the statistics. (I am sure it is good preparation for statistical analysis.)

    From my perspective….

    • enjoyed hosting Saiful and learning a great deal about the Indonesian and Islamic way of life.
    • discovered I had been named one of two  ”MS Innovative Teacher of the Year” for Victoria. So, I get to go to the MS Educators Asia Pacific Conference in Kuala Lumpur in 2009.

My photoFriday is of the beautiful yellow banksia that is flowering in my flower paddock at the moment.

    Boil Down Your Week

Spending time as a host to an Indonesian Islamic teacher was a rewarding one, and witnessing the look of sheer excitement on his face after riding around our wet paddocks on our four wheel motor bike, watching my husband shear a sheep and working with the young students at school made the effort all worthwhile.

     Web article of the week

Education in Crisis Loved the quote by Craig Barrett, chairman of Intel.

“Good teachers are the magic in the classroom.

“Personal computers aren’t magic, they are just a tool. What you need to make the educational process work is a good teacher who is knowledgeable in the subject and can get kids excited.”
