Some classroom ideas:-
- Create a wordle using a minimum of 20 words to describe the Olympic games from a competitor’s veiwpoint
- Choose an online cartoon maker eg toondoo (or other cartoon makers) to produce a cartoon strip for the local paper depicting the highlights of the opening ceremony.
- Using MS Paint or equivalent, draw a picture of your favourite Olympic event, insert as a jpg into voicethread, insert audio or text or video and tell us why it is your favourite sport. Collate all class results into the voicethread. See example with grade 2 or add to this example. (it is open to the public)
- Write a blog post listing some points on “How we know the games are on!” Key in the following headings ‘What I can see, What I can hear and What I can feel” and using bullet points list some descriptors under each heading.
- Describe the contents of the suitcase travelling with the competitor for one of the Olympic sports. Write a blog post.
- Research the least known event and write an 100 word article for a magazine on this event. Write a blog post.
- Research the country with the smallest number of competitors. This could be a blog post, podcast, or MSPowerpoint presentation. The ppt presentation should be uploaded through slideshare for embedding on wikis or blogs.
- Draw the Olympics logo using MS Paint, MS Powerpoint or software of your choice and save as jpg. Insert into a blog post, with instructions for how it was completed reflecting on how easy or difficult it was to produce.
- Create an animated movie:-go to the latest version of Kahootz (or other animation creating program) on our file server>program chooser. Choose your favourite Olympic sport and create an expression to show the contest, action and winner of this sport from the viewpoint of the spectators. If you finish, make into a movie in mpg or mp4 format and upload into a blog post.
- Take on the role of a personal trainer for an Olympian of your choice. Describe some of the physical psychological and emotional traits that you would have to work on, outlining at least two elements from each category. Write a blog post or produce a podcast.
- Interview the winning freestyle swimmer in the 100 metres event and produce a podcast, complete with sound effects.
- Create a soundscape of the Olympic games using software eg Sony Acid, or Garage band, convert to mp3 for podcasting.
This is a great site to keep track of the Beijing Olympic games and the medal count tallies.
