This was another exciting, adventurous but challenging week. Excitement reigned for one of the grade 5 girls who had been ‘blogless’ for approximately 4 months due to all sorts of technical issues. She finally activated her blog successfully, a month ago and has been very busy posting since. When checking her posts, I noticed that she had included some of her own choosing and this one caught my eye:-
“I’ll ask the world a question (that’s you) and you answer it
whats your favorite movie and why?”
So, my trusty twitter network, came to the fore and with one tweet, produced 16 responses. Steph could not contain her excitement when she came to class the next day. Her clustr map was quiet ‘measly’ . Now, she is madly writing thank you emails and blog comments in response. Thank so much to my twitter network.
A grade 6 boy added a comment to one of my posts, asking me how many posts I had written as he had now completed 50 in 6 months. Oooohhh!!! I have only written 70 over nearly 12 months. Gotta give it to the kids!!
And now for the rest of the week….
With the students
- Classroom20 continues to provide me with valuable contacts. There, I recently met Lorraine who teaches via a virtual classroom. Within days of contact, she worked with some grade 6 students and me, demonstrating the virtual classroom software. On Monday, Lorraine had amazingly produced a presentation with images pertinent to Hawkesdale and Australia. Using this she sought answers to her questions from our grade 6 and year 7 students.
Our under 12 girls cricket Victorian team member, aswering questions, about cricket, to Mrs Leo from Boston.
- Students looked at using galaxy. Their tags ranged from “green” through to “cakes”, “tractors” etc
- Grade 4/5 answered post prompts and started to create an appropriate image to go with “their favourite holiday” using either MS Paint of Kahootz.
- Year 7 and 8 filled in the google survey form re mobile phone ownership and commenced learning or revising MS Excel in preparation for their unit on mobile phones. Most of these students own their own phone, most are on a plan and many parents ‘foot’ the bill!!
Student blog of the week goes to:- Rachael in grade 6
Personal involvement
- set up a spreadsheet using google sheet with appropriate headings and then produced a form for survey purposes. It is so easy to do and can be readily embedded into a blog post for students to complete.
- Had a one day meeting in Melbourne as Jess and I are going to share the role of • SW Barwon Regional Innovation Liaison Officer. In the afternoon we participated in a Forum with Professor Margaret Robertson from LaTrobe university.
• Yay!! Finally got my new laptop. My poor old one could hardly boot up and as soon as it did the battery was flat.
• Found some videos that were not in good taste embedded into widgets on the sidebars of some of the young students. A brief explanation and discussion was all that was needed to get the boys to remove them! - My worst job meme
- My Photo of the week
In the midst of winter,a short burst of sunshine on our wattle trees gives a glimpse of spring.
- My day in a sentence
This week’s day in a sentence was hosted by two writing teachers. Here is mine for this week:-
After meeting raine22 from Boston on classroom20, she amazed my class with the presentation she prepared about our little known town, of Hawkesdale in Australia and by careful questioning over a virtual classroom, prised answers out of my students who probably did not realize that they had in fact become ‘teachers’ and not students.

Congratualtions Anne (and Jess) on your new role within the region. You are an inspiration to all teachers for the encouragement you give and the engagement you provide for all students. I hope your new laptop can keep up with all your new applications!
