Hawkesdale College meets Collaboration Nation

April 6, 2008 · 71 Comments

(Make sure you check out the wonderful, varied and interesting comments that the students have made at the end of this post.)

Hello from Hawkesdale, Victoria, Australia

Hello, I am Anne Mirtschin, an information technology(computer studies) teacher in Hawkesdale, Victoria, Australia. It is now autumn and any deciduous trees are starting to colour and lose their leaves. We are a small school of 250 students from prep to year 12 (5yrs – 18 yrs). We are hoping to work together, on blogging, with a school from the USA. Their blog page is entitled “Collaboration Nation”.

In order to get to know each other a little better and thereby, evaluate similarities and differences between our two countries, schools and cultures, I would like to ask you two questions.

1. What is the best thing about living where you do?

2. Tell us why your school is unique?

Please write a post anwering these questions. Then add them as a comment to my blog. Students from both schools are to do this.

Next week, Mr Bogush will write the question a post and it is then hoped that one student per week from alternating schools will write a question for posts.

Below is a photograph of our school.

    ok,
Question 1. WHAT IS THE BEST THING ABOUT LIVING WHERE I DO?

ok..probably the best thing about where I live is it is so quiet, I live in the country and you can always smell fresh air.

Question 2. WHY MY SCHOOL IS UNIQUE?

My school is unique because it is so small and you know most people which is better than being at a school with 3000+ kids and you only know the kids in your form or year level..

  •   Flick // Apr 7th 2008 at 4:47 pm

T think the best thing is that you have alot of area for your animals

    And

My answer why our School is unique is because we have really small classes and we get a fair go

  •   cookies // Apr 7th 2008 at 4:51 pm

What is the best thing about living where you do?

I like where I live because there is a lot of space and fresh air. We have a lot of paddocks to run around in and lots of room around my house. There is also a lot of room to keep our pets and farm animals.

    What makes my school unique?

My school is unique because we have small classes and everyone gets along fairly well with each other. Another unique thing is that we are a P-12 College and most of our students arrive and leave school on a bus.

  •   nikky // Apr 7th 2008 at 4:51 pm

    these are my answers :P

The best thing about where i live would probably be how much space we have.

the most unique thing would be the space that we have compared to how many students that go here..

  •   flurogreen // Apr 7th 2008 at 4:52 pm

    Why my school is unique?

My school is unique because it it a P-12 College with only 250 students in it. Compared to a city school thats close to one year level. My cousin who goes to a Melbourne school has about 200-250 kids in year 9 alone. In our school everyone knows everyone. We may not be best mates and know everything but we could say ‘hey that’s so and so.’ Also we have a big area for so few students. At a lunchtime we have lots of space to do nearly anything we want to from playing soccer or football to sitting with friends or walking around the school.

The best thing about living were i do!
Posted on April 7th, 2008 at 7:00 pm by chickadee and
The best thing about living were i do is it is a good peaceful environment i can do what ever i want woth out getting in trouble i help with working 9in the sheds and i always get out on my motorbike or pushbike and have fun. In Tabor there is only about 10 house’s there are 2 cemertries and 1 church. tabor as alot of history behind it only about ten years ago the name had changed to Tabor before that it was gnathendal.

WHAT IS SO UNIQUE ABOUT OUR SCHOOL?

I think our school is unique because it is very small it is a p-12 with 250 people in it. We all get a fair go we all get along and the teachers are nice and understanding. Hawkesdale p-12 is really good it is a safe environment it’s not like one of the Warrnambool schools were it is really easy to skip out wag i like hawkesdale just the way it is and i would never change it.

The best thing about living where I do!

The best thing about living where i do is we are in the country on a bit of land, there is no pollution and i have a lot of space to play sport. there isnt trains near so its not that loud and you can sleep easy without lots of noise. Also we live a few hundred metres from the pub. the pub has good meals.

    Why my school is unique?

Our school is unique because we only have about 250-300 kids ranging from Prep to Year 12. It is in the country and some teachers can take it when kids annoy them, and dish it out.

What is the best thing about where i live???

I don’t like living in big busy towns (but being close to one is handy!) also i love the beach i’m not to far away from friends or family and transport is always accesible.

The unique thing about my school is small, very small and is in the middle of nowhere…no really it is.

Meh, I love it! xxoo kara!

  •   Lauren // Apr 7th 2008 at 5:18 pm

    1. What is the best thing about living where you do?

Where I live it’s on a farm in a little place near Orford. Not many people live there but where my house is it’s got plenty of space and it’s not closed in like any town.

    2. What is unique about your school?

It hasn’t got many kids that go to it and everyone has something to look foward to

  •   kara // Apr 7th 2008 at 5:32 pm

    Whats unique about my school??

Well, it’s a very small school considering it prep to yr 12 and it only has about 250 people and it’s also very rural. Everyone knows everyone so there is very little cases of bullying and everyone gets on.

    kara xxoo

  •   Nat // Apr 7th 2008 at 5:37 pm

The best thing about living where i do is that i live in the a little town with a bit off land to kick the football or play a little game of cricket. I get a lot of wildlife in my backyard like birds, once in a while a koala, i’v had a kangaroo twice and my neighbours chicken and dog.

    Whats unique about my school?

The school i go to is out in the country, its only has around 250-300 people from prep to yr12, and i find blue tounge lizards by some of the sheds.

My school is unique becausse my class is the only class in Ct that does the blogging.

  •   tsoccer20 // Apr 8th 2008 at 4:43 pm

The best thing about living in Connecticut is probably snow and the season Fall. I love how the snow falling in the Winter is so peaceful, sitting by the fireplace and unwrapping presents on Christmas. I also love going outside and playing in the snow. My brother and I make snowmen, snow angels, snow forts and have snowball fights. The snow is one of my main highlights for living in the Northwest of the United States. (But I hate the cold weather!) Another one of my favorite things about living in Connecticut, is Autumn/Fall. I love the variety of colors on the trees rather than just the plain green. They are all so beautiful and it is a shame for them to fall when Winter comes around.

Our school is unique because most (emphasis on the word most!) teachers all are very kind and they have a good sense of humor. Not one of my teachers in elementary school (Grades 1-5) had a sense of humor at all. Most of them were kind, but then I got some of them that were not so kind. Every single one of the teachers I have had in middle school (Grades 6-8) were all kind. All of my favorite teachers have come from our middle school. They all have a good sense of humor, which makes them very likeable and fun to learn from. I love the teachers at our school and that is what I think makes our school very unique.

  •   luap03 // Apr 8th 2008 at 5:38 pm

I think the best thing about living were we live is the weather. Every three months we get something different. In the Fall we have cool air but it does not get too cold out. In the Winter we get snow and in most cases we’re excited for the snow because I get sick of the hot weather. In the Spring I get a good feeling because by then I am sick of the cold weather and my birthday is in the Spring. The bad thing about Spring is that it can play tricks on you in the beginning it can be anywhere from 30-70 degrees fahrenheit.

I think our school is unique because we have the nicest principle ever. He is fair and easygoing. He will always say hi to you with a smile on his face and rarely yells unless it’s needed. He is giving us the chance to go on and 8th grade outing were we get to take a day off a school and go to a place with free food pools and games. I hope when I go to high school the principle will as good!

What is the best thing about living where you do?
The thing I like most about where I live is how big my town is but not as crazy as a city. I lived in Connecticut all my life and I love it!
Tell us why your school is unique?
Our school is unique mainly because of all our project with other states and country’s!

  •   blondycc128 // Apr 9th 2008 at 1:05 pm

The best thing about where I live is that I have a lot of friends that I can hang out with. I actually moved here from Massachusettes but I was 5 years old so I didn’t really have a hard time leaving. I can walk to my grandparents house and see my family when they are over their house. I live in a neighborhood with lots of streets so my friends and I walk the streets and ride our bikes. We have to watch out for cars. We also sometimes play this game called Man Hunt, it’s really fun there are two teams and one team hides and the other has to try to fin them. But what ever you do you do not want them to find you and tag you. It’s a lot like tag but a little bit different. There are a lot of houses in my neighborhood. I don’t know about anywhere else. I think I would like where I live better if there was more space, I feel like i’m trapped in my neighborhood. I like big open spaces, I like cities but not a lot. We don’t see to many animals around here although a fox was roaming through the neighborhood one time. Also in my aunts back yard theres this black bear that comes around once in a while and they have a 2 year old daughter so they have to watch her outside. Other wise theres not too many animals where I live. That’s really where I live nothing interesting.

To me the most unique thing about our school is the kinds of sprts we get to play. We get to play softball, baseball, track, cross country, and basketball (boys and girls). We also have tournaments druing gym, like volleyball and table tennis.

  •   shortie4ever // Apr 9th 2008 at 1:24 pm

There are so many great things I love about living here.

    1. The thing I love best about living where I live is that we have four seasons. I love how we have WINTER and all the snow. It is pretty when everything is so white. Then it will get to SPRING and the temperature will be just perfect with the wind. When you get to SUMMER it gets so hot and I love swimming. Then it gets to FALL and the leaves start falling off the trees just like it is in Australia now.

    2. The thing that I think is unique about our school is the people in it. The students are all different, we all have a lot of fun hanging out with out friends. Students come and go in our school every year and it makes it all that better because you learn new things about everyone. Being around all the teachers is great too. They all have different teaching styles and it is fun to have different ways of learning.

  •   Roaminggnome // Apr 9th 2008 at 1:56 pm

    1) Our state is unique because we get all 4 of the seasons. My personal favorite is winter because I love the snow is looks really nice on all of the trees and is really fun to play in. Also we get all of the seasons for about trhe same amount of time so you dont get tired of hot or cold weather.

2)Our school is unique because we are the one of the only if not the only school in CT that uses technology on a daily basis and blogs.

  •   ksa08 // Apr 9th 2008 at 2:27 pm

I like my country because of a lot of reasons, but mainly because we are free to do whatever we want. Without that right I don’t know how life will be.

I think my school is unique because of all the classes it offers that other schools don’t offer, such as Unified Arts. Other Schools don’t have Unified Arts.

  •   beachbum41194 // Apr 9th 2008 at 2:35 pm

answer to question #1: The best thing about living here is that we have all of the seasons. We have fall, winter, summer, and spring with the weather that naturally goes with it. For example, down south where Florida is, they hardly get any snow for the winter. However, here we get A LOT of snow. It’s nice though because then you can go sledding and actually experience a snow ball fight. In addition, our summers are really warm and it’s also fun to go swimming, going in the sprinkler, or a trip to the beach, which I love! If I ever move, I would really miss this factor of where I live!

Answer to question #2: The thing that makes our school unique is pretty much the teachers. Every teacher is different and have their own way of teaching their students. For example, Mr. Bogush teaches us real-world things that we might, and probably will, face during life. Like blogging and using the computer. On the other hand, Mr. Nagel, my science teacher, goes by the book, but we learn sooo much that way. So, I like my school because if every teacher was the same, I would get bored really easily!

  •   Dolphins10 // Apr 9th 2008 at 3:43 pm

    1. What is the best thing about living where you do?

I think the best thing about living here is the weather. I like the variety. In the summer it’s nice and warm and sunny. Also, during the fall, it is nice and cool. It’s not to hot or too cold. I also like to see the leaves change. The spring is also nice because it starts to get warmer again. I love the winter because the snow is beautiful and it is perfect weather to drink hot chocolate!

    2. Tell us why your school is unique?

Our school is unique because we are one of many schools that use technology for everything. The whole school isn’t based on technology alone, but in our Social Studies class, everything is done on a computer. We use blogs, Wiki’s, podcasts, and more for every project or homework assignment.

  •   darkcow // Apr 9th 2008 at 4:50 pm

The best thing around here is that everything is close by. We have many elementary schools, 2 middle schools, 2 high schools, and many shops. You can drive across the town in like 15 minutes and there is still a lot of stuff to do. We have a bowling alley, a movie theater, a go-kart track and a whole boat load of more stuff.

Our class is unique because we do a lot of technology in our class. Our school isn’t really special than any other school, however.

  •   willywonka // Apr 9th 2008 at 5:55 pm

    1. The best thing about living where we are is definitely the people! Yeah, the weather is nice, but the weather won’t matter if there weren’t any nice people to enjoy it with. Every day when I walk down the street, I see at least 5 people waving saying hello, how are you, what’s new, just making small talk. That’s pretty rare. Many people today have their own opinions on different topics and are very stubburn and stern in what they believe in. I love how where we live, people can have a nice conversation without getting into a fight!

    2. Our school is somewhat unique. Normally, I would just think of it as a normal school where kids go to school in the morning, sit in a chair all day, learn, and then go home in the afternoon. However, in our social studies class now, we have wikis and blogs and many other schools don’t have these things. We can go on the internet and interact with other schools across the globe and I think it is really cool how our wikispace is at the top of other majorly known wikispaces in the world.

  •   cthornets08 // Apr 9th 2008 at 6:04 pm

    1. I love where I live because we get all four seasons, winter, spring, fall, and winter. I love the fact that we can get from having 0 degree weather, to 95 degree weather. I love the variety of temperatures. I personally don’t like having the same temperature for too long. This range is very good.
    2. I think that our school is unique because we use computers for just about everything we do. Not many schools, if that, in Connecticut use computers for blogging, wikispaces, voice threads, etc. I like being different and being one of the only schools in the Connecticut that uses these tools is very defferent.

  •   camear024 // Apr 9th 2008 at 6:05 pm

The best thing about living in CT would have to be the weather, and the fact that we get to experience all four seasons throughout the year. You can’t fully appreciate summer & spring until you’ve been through a long cold winter full of ice and snow. Also, my state has the best of both worlds. You can go to a big city, go to the country, or the suburbs. It’s a pretty calm/pleasent place to live. Also, it’s only a short ride to New York, or Massachusetts.

My school is unique in a few different way. Firstly, there are a select few teachers that I feel have really influenced me & my whole education. Most of the classes are enjoyable & I have to admit that I’ve learned a lot in my three years here. Also, I really enjoy the oppurtunity to not only have academic classes but also have other classes like wood shop, art, sewing, and cooking. Lastly, There is some freedom of choice. You get to choose what sports you do in gym, etc. There are a lot of different types of kids, and even if somebody isn’t on your team, you still have oppurtunities to see them in school.

  •   Baseball1294 // Apr 9th 2008 at 6:10 pm

    1. What is the best thing about living where you do?

-I think that the best thing about where I live would be that you don’t have to leave out town. There is a lot in our town. We have movie theaters, grocery stores, and restaurants. In our town we have a verity of different stores and place to go. I would think the only reason to leave would be to see family and go on vacation.

    2. Tell us why your school is unique?

    - One would have to be the kinds of teachers. We have teachers that are funny, teachers that are boring, and teachers that are old fashion. By old fashion I mean that don’t really talk to the students. For example they pass out text books tell you to read them and write a summary. I would have to say that this year I enjoy each one of my teachers.

  •   Footballkid5410 // Apr 9th 2008 at 6:10 pm

    1. What is the best thing about living where you live?
The best thing about where I live is that it is a very nice and safe town, with a low rate of crime. There is always something to do too. We have a couple of parks and a community pool too. That is why it’s a good place to live.

2.Tell us why your school is unique?
My school is definitely unique. We are one of the few schools in America that still had a wood-working class and a clock-making class. I think it is the last year for it though, which is unfortunate to future students because I liked those classes. Also, we use technology frequently in classes like metal class and especially in Social Studies. That is what is unique about our school.

  •   yamahablaster // Apr 9th 2008 at 6:55 pm

    1. I think the best thing about living where I do is the open areas and the space we get to do what we want to. I also like that we have seasons. I like seasons because in the winter I could ride my quad on the snow and when its hot out I could ride my dirtbike.

    2. My school is unique for many reasons. All of the stuff we do with computers is amazing. We do all kinds of assignments. We have a lot of fun, and learn while doing it.Those are just one of the many reasons that my school is unique.

    1. What is the best thing about living where you do? The best thing about living where i do is being able to do what ever ya want. having the freedom to go out shooting, motorbike riding and mucking around with mates is good as.

    2. Tell us why your school is unique? my school is unique because we only have 300 kids in the whole school. The population in the whole town is 150 so there are more people go to the school than the towns population.

  •   noono // Apr 9th 2008 at 7:15 pm

    1. What is the best thing about living where you do?

I like living out of Hawkesdale on my farm because I like the open space away from towns and I like the room just to have fun without people complaining. I drive my old ‘paddock bomb’ around the paddocks, ride the motor bikes and help with farm work. I help get the Sheep in to the sheep yards to draft them up, so we can drench them, sell them, shear and dag them and capsule them. I help feed cows hay off the back of the ute.

    2. Tell us why your school is unique?

Its close to my home and its in the middle of nowhere. Its a small school with a country feel. There are only 260 students with about 35 teachers. Students are aged 5 to 18. We have a big gum tree outside the school office.

  •   Dhugsy // Apr 9th 2008 at 7:18 pm

    1. What is the best thing about living where you do?

    - There is easy access to different shops and you are more open to different people and have more friends… well i think. also we can drive around our town in 10 minuts and also we have a volcano, but it is extinct and now is a mountain

    2. Tell us why your school is unique?

    - Hawkesdale College is unique because there is just the right amount of people so you dont get the feeling that you are a loner but you feel that you know everybody and dont feel left out.

Amanda: What sports do you play there? Any sports you do that are different from around the world? What are the most popular?

in victoria which is down the bottom of Australia afl football is the most popular sport, its a great game most boys play footy

  •   Chris // Apr 9th 2008 at 7:25 pm

    1. What is the best thing about living where you do?
I believe that the best thing about living out in the Country is the wide open spaces, instead of going to the Park to kick the footy you can just go out do it in your big backyards or paddocks. I great luxury of living in the Country is that everyone knows everyone.

    2. Tell us why your school is unique?
I believe that our School is unique because of the small class sizes which means one on one learning. The fact that bullying is rare makes the School even more unique.

  •   Robert // Apr 9th 2008 at 7:31 pm

    1. What is the best thing about living where you do?

The best thing about where I live is the fact that it is peacful I can read, play guitar and play my playstation in peace. I live only a short way away from towerhill, a wildlife sanctuary. [Tower Hill was once a volcano and millions of years ago it erupted leaving a crater behind] You can see wallabies, emus, lots of koalas and a lot of wild birdlife. It is rather dry at the moment, because we are in a drought.

    1. What is the best thing about living where you do?

I don’t have to smell the fossel fuels of the big cities, and I have lots of room to ride my bike. It is better in the country than the city as there is crime there but none at Hawkesdale so it is safe

    2. Tell us why your school is unique?

All the students know one another and the teacher’s and it is a sporting school and we are all friends. that’s way my school is unique

    C.T. :)

    1. The best thing about living here, is that we have 4 seasons. Winter, when the ground is covered in snow. Spring, when the flowers start to come up. Summer, when it is hot out, and we don’t have school. And fall, when the leaves change colors and they fall from the tree.

    2. Our school is unique beacuse we have so many different people in it. And every teacher teachs in a different way. At our school, some teachers just stand at the board, and talk and write and expect us to copy it all down and understand it. And some teachers, actually explain things and make learning fun!

  •   CTMayhem09 // Apr 10th 2008 at 5:34 am

    1. What is the best thing about living where you do?

The best thing about living where we do is I like having four seasons. Not all places experience winter or summer or even fall and spring. The weather varies so well that sometimes you never even know what the next day will be like. After a few months the weather becomes completely different. It makes sports seasons clearer and more designated. Sports are a huge part of my life so it benefits me well.

    2. Tell us why your school is unique?

Our school is unique because we are very technology-oriented. As sixthe graders we take a computer class and as you experience new teachers you experience new projects. In some classes we make videos and in Social Studies we have basically everything on computers. We are learning the Classroom 2.0 tools and different ways of communication. I like being able to talk to people from other states and countries. It makes learning interesting and fun.

What it’s like to live in Connecticut

The best thing about living in Connecticut is that the weather is surprising. Somedays it will be really hot and the next day it will be really cold. But there are rarely any natural disators such as tornadoes, hurricanes, etc. We also have snowy winters and really hot summers. I like having a surprise when I wake up in the morning.

The thing that makes our school different is our use of technology and the will of our teachers to try something new and different.

    1. What is the best thing about living where you do?
The best thing about living where I do is that I know my way around. I am used to the things that surround me. The area where I live is a safe place and I would feel safe just walking around my block by myself. My town and where I live has alot of businesses, which means that I have alot of different places to eat from and alot of different varietites of places to go and to chose from. I also have alot of friends that I know from school and that are my friends that live nearby, so I can do things with them.

    2. Tell us why your school is unique?
Our school is different from many other schools. We learn in ways that are fun and not boring. In Social Studies espiecally, we get to interact with other kids from around the world. We get a chance to learn about other kids
that we never imagined we would talk to and communicate with. In Language Arts we get to learn while being in groups and we get to learn how to work together and make new friends. And interact with kids that we don’t usually talk with.

  •   linkinparkrulez // Apr 10th 2008 at 11:09 am

The best thing about living where I do there is a movie theater where I get to hang out with my friends every friday. Also there are these really cool dances that a lot of people go to.They are so awesome because you get to hang out with friends from diffrent schools as well as dancing with them. Then there is my favorite part which is the sports that our town has and the summer programs. They are both really fun and awesome to be in.
Now my school isn’t really unique because its like most schools but maybe to you it might be. Well for starters our school was named after a person and we have a really good sports team. We also have a really good music program that goes to Six Flags every year for competition and they are also always in the memorial day parade. Well I guess thats all I have to say.

    1. What is the best thing about living where you do? i love the animals/zoos that we have here. I like animals and wildlife. I also like the amusement parks we have! My favorite rides are Superman and Nitro. these rides are in six flags New Jersey and six flags in Connecticut. i like being in the air then crashing down toward earth at 80+ miles and hour.

    2. Tell us why your school is unique? The thing that is most unique about are school is how Mr. Bogush teaches. he is a great/fantastic teacher!! he doesn’t do boring assignments from a text book he does it like with another activity and make it unique. His class is so fun and on top of that he is a unique teacher, not just his class is unique but he is too! He told me a lot of things to help me succeed in life!

  •   Smart // Apr 10th 2008 at 2:04 pm

    1) What is the best thing about where you live?
I think the best thing about living in CT is that we probably have the best weather anyone can ask for. We have all 4 seasons and nothing is ever so severe. Of course, temperatures in the summer reach some all time highs, but nothing so bad. Fall is great because all the leaves are changing colors and the temperature is starting to drop. Winter is a lot of fun with all the snow we get, but we haven’t gotten a blizzard in years thanks to global warming (thanks) . Then spring comes around. Leaves start to grow back on the trees, flowers grow, and the weather has perfect temperature and beautiful days.

    2) Our school is unique because we are the only school in our area that has the use of technology in schools. We are the only bloggers that blog on a weekly basis, and the only school that has a wiki that is so popular around the world.

  •   cheerleader4lifexoxo // Apr 10th 2008 at 4:04 pm

what is the best thing about living where you do?

well i think that the best thing about living where i do is probably that i get to see all the seasons. my cousins live in Florida and they came up here once to visit during the winter and it snowed and they thought that it was so cool because living in Florida where it’s warm all the time they had never seen snow before.

    what makes your school unique?

what makes my school unique is probably Mr. Bogush’s class. before 8th grade i had never herd of a class like his. i never thought that a history class could revolve so much around computers i always thought that the most i would ever use computers would be in a computer class!

  •   Mr. B // Apr 10th 2008 at 5:22 pm

My answer my be slightly different than the kids because I live a couple towns over from school…but only 20 minutes away. I live in the only town that is considered rural in my county and we are by far and away the smallest(4,500pop). 25% of my town is owned by the water company so there is plenty of open space left — everything is covered with trees. I have a small farm – sheep, checkens(eggs and broilers), hogs, sometimes turkeys and steers. I used to be the biggest rabbit and goat farmer in the county but we moved out of those last year. So the most unique thing about where I live is that I get to farm my land. I have ten acres which is considered HUGE around here.

Hmmmm…most unique thing about my school. Almost everything about my school is just like everyother school in the entire country. But the one thing that separates my kiddos from the rest is that they have been part of a wonderful experiement this year to fully integrate technology and collaborating with other schools into our daily life and not just special projects. we have collaborated with schools in many different states and almost everything we have done has been for a specific audience somewhere else on the globe. The kids have been the best “guiniea pigs” in the world this year as I have stumbled and bumbled through completly redesigning how our class operates.
hmmm….”gunie pigs” is a phrase you are familiar with I hope!
After looking at you school on google earth it looks like your rural community is my dream sort of place. Around here you could drive through 10 twons and not even know when one ends and the other begins because it is just house on house. We do have the benifit though of driving 2 hours west and being in New York City, 2o minutes south and being on the ocean, two hours east and being in Boston, and two hours north and being in the mountains.
I have to add my favorite sport is rugby — #9! Any ruggers down there?

  •   Mr. B // Apr 10th 2008 at 5:25 pm

Forgot to add one question…in a few weeks I am going to see one of my favorite new bands in the states Airbourne. they are from Victoria right? Are they popular? Do any of you listen to them?

  •   globetrotter // Apr 10th 2008 at 5:52 pm

    1. What is the best thing about living where you do?

I like how everyone knows each other. unlike in the city where people get robbed walking down a stair case. We all know each other in this little community

    2. Tell us why your school is unique?

My School is unique because we do blogging and have wikispaces. Not a lot of people even know about this. It gives us a good start in a career with computers.

  •   Ice22 // Apr 10th 2008 at 6:35 pm

I can’t decide about what the best thing about where i live is because there are so many great things about. I like the weather, the scenery and that we have so much freedom. I like that our weather varies so much that we have snow, sun, rain and nice weather all the time. Its also good because we don’t have tornadoes or tsunamis or anything dangerous like that. The snow is always so beautiful when its all over the ground and on the trees. I personally love having snowball fights with my neighbors and building snowman. Sledding is also a lot of fun because i have a huge hill in my front yard that i go surfing on (which is like when i stand on the sled and go downhill). Even though it sounds dangerous , it is so much fun!!I also love going in the swimming pool and having fights with water guns. =]

Our school is unique because we use a lot of technology. we have used podcasts, blogs, wikispaces and so much more. Our teachers are also very creative and different than most. Our school and our country are very unique.

    1. What is the best thing about living where you do?

I would probably have to say all of my friends. My friends are everything to me and i wouldn’t be the same without them. I guess that you could say that they complete me. If my friends weren’t all here then I would probably want to move to Hawaii or some place like that where it is always hot and I live on a beach!

    2. Tell us why your school is unique?

My school is unique because of all the people in it. There are some many different personalities that make this school who it is.

Although I was born in Melbourne, the capital city of Victoria, and then lived in Adelaide, the capital city of SA, I married a farmer so I live on a farm. Our farm would now be considered a small one but it is 600 acres. I love the quiet atmosphere, the stars in the sky at night, our clean, fresh drinking water and the lovely warm days of summer. We have sheep and cattle on our farm and have just finished shearing the sheep. We have chooks for eggs, peacocks, ducks, 2 pet dogs and a farm dog and a lovely ginger cat. We also grow cut flowers and bunch them and sell them at an honesty stall at the gate. I love coming home from school and going for a ride on our 4 wheeler motorbike.
We never get snow here and very few of our students have seen snow. We love swimming at the pool or in the sea (a 25 min drive away). We have four seasons and it is now autumn. However, our area is in the rich volcanic plains but due to the lack of good rainfalls, we have been declared a drought area for the first time in white man settlement.
I teach information technology at Hawkesdale P12 College to grades 4-12 and I love using web2.0 tools such as wikis, blogs, podcasting etc. Our school is unique, in that it is small, everyone knows everyone and students get a lot of attention. We have large spacious grounds with beautiful gum trees. It is a 5 minute walk to the local outdoor swimming pool and we go swimming for school when it is hot. We have had quite a few 40deg celcius this summer. Today was still 26 deg celcius.
We look forward to your question(s) next week.
